Holstein Award

Call for Proposals: Holstein Award

The Department of Religious Studies invites applications for the Holstein Award for research projects on topics related to religion and social justice that are undertaken by graduate students and/or lecturers in any department at the University of California, Riverside.

The Holstein Award is intended to support research, broadly construed. Award amounts will vary depending on available funds, and some projects may be funded in part rather than in full. Awarded activities may include, but are not limited to: Up to full tuition and fees for one term, including tuition for continuing education for lecturers; travel for research; conference travel regardless of paper presentation; necessary research equipment, excepting computers; and fees such as for conference registration. Per UCR regulations, any durable research equipment must remain the property of the University.

Typically, an applicant may only receive the Holstein Award once; however, exceptions may be made in extenuating circumstances.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and will be reviewed by a committee. To apply, please submit a three- to five-page proposal (double spaced) that explains the activity or activities to be funded, their relationship to your larger research agenda, the necessity of the funding, and any other existing (already approved) funding sources; a one-page budget; a timeline for the project; a CV; and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member at UCR or another academic institution who is knowledgeable about your research. Applications should be submitted via email attachment to melissa.wilcox@ucr.edu.

The Holstein Award is funded by the Holstein Family and Community Chair in Religious Studies at UCR, which was created through the generosity of Robert and Loretta Holstein and their family and friends.
